Letter to My Heartless Mother

Dear Mother,

I have written this letter a hundred times, but I never had the courage to give it to you.

You were supposed to be my first home, my comfort, and the person who would love me no matter what. But growing up, I felt like a stranger in your house.

I remember being a little boy, watching other mothers hug their sons. I wondered why you never hugged me. Whenever I made a mistake, you called me useless. Whenever I cried, you told me that real men do not cry.

So I learned to hide my tears.

There were nights when I went to bed hungry while you made sure my brothers and sisters had enough to eat. I never complained. I kept telling myself that maybe you would love me someday.

But that day never came.

At eighteen, I left home with a small bag and a heart full of pain. I promised myself that I would survive without you.

Years passed. I worked hard, struggled, and eventually built a good life. I became the man I always wished you had encouraged me to become.

Then one evening, my phone rang.

It was you.

You were sick and needed help.

For a moment, I remembered everything you had done to me. I could have ignored your call.

But I didn't.

When I arrived at the hospital, you looked weak and helpless. You held my hand and began to cry.

“I am sorry, my son,” you whispered.

Those words broke me.

Mother, I had waited years to hear them.

I forgave you, but forgiveness did not erase the scars you left behind.

I will always wonder why you couldn't love me when I needed you most.

Still, I refuse to become bitter.

You taught me what a mother should never be.

And somehow, despite everything, you also taught me how important it is to love my own children.

Your son.
